Week 11
CRM and Analytics
Is CRM dead? Seth Godin
Define the
following
Objectives: An end result that a company or organisation which
to achieve with in certain time frame. it is broad and can generally consist of
individual goals that will be achieve along the way that in the end will create
the objective being achieved. For example a company is looking at making a
total profit of $1,000,000 for a financial year in the year 2020; leading up to
2020 they will look at ways to increase profit having targets for years prior
to 2020.
Goals: Goals are SMART( Specific, Measurable,
Achievable, Relevant and Time framed), they are set out to help achieve the
overall objective of the company or organization. Example, increase profit by 50%
on last year’s profit
KPI's (Key Performance Indicator) A unit of measurment that shows whether a websiote
is achieing its objectives. Example, increase of 10% on profit as of December 31
Why is a 'hit' not strictly a useful
metric?
A hit is not exactly a useful tool to measure the
success of your website as consumers can bounce onto your website and take no
or little notice of the content or realise that the site is not what they were
after and leave. It doesn't state how long they were on the website for ot what
exactly they were looking at and how many times they have returned to the site,
these are better forms of measurment when looking at the successfulness of your
website.

Week 9
Topic 9 – New Media and the Brand
1. Everyone’s got to stop looking at marketing and branding in terms of Web v Ad.
It is not a competition between web and ad as they need to work hand in hand. One of the best way to advertises is on radio, which will lead people to your web site or store. Ads may very well lead people to the web so how can they compete with each other, they aid each other. Both have the advantage and disadvantages, ad work better with older whereas the younger generation like the web.
2. Advertising on MySpace is like sending a postcard to Brazil: Entirely ineffectual.
MySpace is like a postcard, not many people use them now days. Facebook and Twitter are the top social networks. Email or Ecards have taken over from postcards.
3. Big/bold/authentic works.
Just because it BIG and BOLD doesn't mean that it's a great ad. Some of the best ads are one that has nothing to do with what they are selling. Thinking outside of the box is must for advertises.
4. It’s Not About Polish.
Just because the ad is spick and span doesn't mean that it will be a hit. People do not like perfect ad, they want ads that they can relate to. Ads and web sites need to have something that to draw attention to them.
5. Here comes the evolution of the closed network.
It all comes down to respect, engage and inspire. If you don't you're not maximising your potential earning power on the web.

Advertising and Affiliate Marketing
(1) Define the following
terms:-
optin: To give permission for emails to be sent to you.
optout: Also known as unsubscribe - The act of removing oneself from a list or lists so that specified information is no longer received via email
Spam: Email sent to someone who has not requested to receive it - EVIL!
CPA: Cost per Action: Refers to the cost of acquiring a new customer. The advertiser only pays when a desired action is achieved (sometimes called cost per acquisition).
CPC: Cost per Click: Refers to when an advertiser only pays when their ad is clicked upon, giving them a visitor to their site - typically from a search engine in pay per click search marketing.
CPM: Cost per Mil: Amount paid for every 1000 views of an advertisement
Google Adwords: Google’s PPC (Pay per Click) program, which allows advertisers to display their adverts on relevant search results and across Google’s content network.

(2) Think about your own behaviour when browsing online. Do you pay attention to display
adverts? Is there a difference between the ones that catch your eye and those that
don’t?
I do not pay attention to these ad's as I am not interested in what they are adverting as it will cost me money. If I needed it, I will look it up. To catch my eye you will need to have bright colours, flashing or moving parts. If the ad is dell and boring it will not even get a look.
(3) What is the difference between the mindset of someone responding to a display advert and someone conducting a web search?
Someone responding to an advert may have been looking for a particular product but will not have a set mindset on what they actually want to achieve by responding to the advert. Also they may have wondered across the advert indirectly and made a quick decision (impulse purchase) on a particular item. Someone conducting a web search is more likely to have a more specific mindset and will be looking for something more in particular. They are more likely not to stray from their goal.
(4) What is the link between this video and email SPAM?
The video is about caned SPAM (food) and how annoying and disliked it is, Spam is portrayed as ubiquitous and inescapable in the video. Email SPAM is also annoying, disliked, everywhere and unavoidable, therefore both the video and email SPAM are annoying and dislike. Most people do not enjoy getting email SPAM as it wastes your time and canned SPAM is only used as a staple.

Mobile Development
Mobile Development
Consider the headings Monitoring, Updating, Entertainment, and
Problem solver. Would you expand the headings from a marketing point of view?
I think that the four heading cover everything that can be done on a mobile
from a simple text to surfing the web. The headings look vague but when you
look at the big picture of the word it fits.
Monitoring is when phone use keeps up to date with the world news. Update
is from you to use social networks to inform other what you're doing. Entertainment
is for you to keep yourself and other entertained with games, music and videos.
Problem solve is when you use your phone to find and answer or directors to
somewhere.
DO you all receive similar updates and are they welcome or not
welcome?
I do receive many updating email daily as I have brought thing from them
and then they just bomb bared me with newsletter/promotions. Most of them are
unwelcome especially the daily ones but the weekly one I trend to read
more.
What would your top 10
app list be now?
1.
Facebook
2.
Angry Birds
3.
Slotomania
4.
Yahoo Mail
5. Office
6.
Google
7.
Google Earth
8.
eBay
9. Youtube
10. Radio Scanner
